On the 3rd of October at the ESL room in PAIS, T. Lee was workshop leader with T. Percy the co-speaker of the SIOP Workshop. In attendance for the workshop were Dr. Husni, teachers from primary, middle and high schools that teach ESL or Second / World Language students in their regular jobs. In total 16 teachers were in attendance. The purpose of the workshop was to familiarize the teachers with the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP).This incorporated links to the ESLRs:
ACADEMIC ACHIEVERS: LEARN SIOP MODEL/PROTOCOL
PERSONALLY / SOCIALLY WELL-BALANCED: WORK INDIVIDUALLY AND IN GROUPS
EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATORS AND ARTISTICALLY AWARE: COMMUNICATE IN ENGLISH AND CREATE MINDMAPS TO TAKE NOTES.
The activity started with an introductory story and an overview of the workshops agenda. The
activity was interesting in the fact that teachers from all sections of the school joined and
collaborated successfully, all giving valuable insights from their many years of experience. After a thorough review of all the materials and information from the workshop, certificates were handed out and photos taken. A survey was also administered to get feedback from everyone involved and the results are filed for reference. Over all the SIOP WORKSHOP was a success and very positive feedback was attained.
